Kathy Roberson is a writer, social worker, and mother with Master’s degrees in social work and creative writing. She worked as the Policy and Information Coordinator at The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities in New Jersey for 10 years, where she advocated on behalf of families caring for a family member with a developmental disability. Her passion for supporting families and for creative writing led her to start a writers’ group for caregivers, which met for five years until she moved from the area. She has since started a new caregiver writers’ group in Philadelphia where she lives with her husband and their daughter, Katie.
Kathy’s recently published book of poems, Moment of Departure, explores the everyday challenges and joys of raising a child with special needs, including issues related to having a child with a significant intellectual disability and transracial adoption.
